My topic for this week’s discussion is Quality Management. I chose this out of three options because I want to see what I already know about quality and at the same time explore a few more things about it. When I think or someone talks about quality, I think of a product and how good that product is. I believe, the general population as a consumer, usually metonym the word quality with the brand, product origin, how it looks, and how it feels. However, Quality is about much more than describing a product or service as “good”, it is about satisfying a set of explicitly or implicitly defined inherent characteristics. (Freeman, G. 2019). That simply means that the product or services must meet the intended objectives of the project and have value to the donor and beneficiaries and that the beneficiaries can use the material or service as it was originally intended. Project quality management is the process through which quality is managed and maintained throughout a project (Global Knowledge, 2017 np).
Quality management is not an event it is the underlying process where an entire organization depends on. This is something that is not handled by one person or a project manager only, it is only possible with the joint collaboration of all the people, processes stakeholders, and technologies that are involved in the organization’s culture of quality as well as the organization objective that make up its goals. Customer satisfaction is always the focal point when we talk about project management and it is true that quality service is always appreciable. According to the article, providing the quality service also helps to reduce the cycle time and costs, and eliminating errors and rework using a set of defined tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Pareto Analysis, etc. (Freeman, G. 2019).
It is important to note that quality activities should form a well-integrated part of the overall project plan. They are not being planned in isolation by some quality manager, but rather by the whole project management team. Quality management is a repetitive cycle of measuring quality, updating processes, measuring, updating processes until the desired outcome is achieved.

Person 2 (Michael) post:
Production of complex end products of a project requires a variety of items. The type of product exchanged between the two parties determines the type of relationship between buyer and supplier (Dixit, 2020). The availability of information plays an important role in project Procurement Management and shape every single process on the suppliers, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, consumers, re-users, remanufacturers, or recyclers. If transportation costs would be too high, sometimes the company might set up many manufacturing plants all over the world, each serving its local market.
Macroeconomic factors that impact price, affordability and services include taxes, tariffs, exchange rates, and shipping costs that are not internal to an individual firm (Chen, Drezner, Ryan, #038; Simchi-Levi, 2000). An advantage of Procurement Management that works flawlessly and efficiently would allow organizations procurement unit to get/release new products while investing in previous developments. It also allows for collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment amongst various project teams, the producers, and vendors. Whereas, imperfect demand forecasting can create a significant bullwhip effect especially when demand data at a downstream site are not available to the upstream site.
Project procurement is exposed to multiple risks of external environment from which items are sourced and procurement contracts should be evaluated from the perspective of the risk involved (Dixit, 2020). Procurement Management, its decision-making, and process execution cannot be done in isolation due to mutual interactions and dependencies among the project management team, the procurement unit or entities in the organization, and third-party suppliers. So, centralized project procurement management or project demand and supply information would help in reducing the bullwhip effect.
Dixit (2020) opined that firms working in a project context is more risky, complex in nature, and have an extremely high value associated with supplies of items, and procurement risks may have a cascading effect on project cost and schedule overrun. Dixit identified the following gap in project procurement management.
a) delay in receipt of items (DR),
b) change in currency rate (CCR),
c) disruption in communication (DIC),
d) funding problem (FP), failure to realize technology and,
e) requirements (FRTR) and Failure to contact enough suppliers.
Procumbent Management has associated risks to project deliverables. Dixit (2020) note that the management of risk in project procurement can be looked at from the perspectives of:
1) item being exchanged,
2) type of buyer-supplier relationship and,
3) the type of pricing regime.
What this means is that stakeholders vested in the project procurement management have different incentives that are dependent on the exchange in terms of information through email, letters, phone or fax, the size, weight, monetary value, and urgency of procured products and services.
